General specifications: The aluminum framing system shall be manufactured by Gardner Metal Systems, Acworth, Georgia and shall be erected in accordance with GMS approved shop drawings and installation instructions.

Materials: All frame sections shall be extruded aluminum 6063 T6 alloy and temper. All fasteners exposed to view or weather shall be stainless steel. All other fasteners to be carbon steel with a cadmium and yellow iridescent chromate finish. Glazing gaskets are typically neoprene (exterior) and EPDM (interior).

Finish: Exposed surfaces shall be smooth and free of scratches and shall be ready to receive one of the following finishes: clear anodizing; color anodizing; acrylic baked-on enamel; high solids polyester coatings; two-coat fluoropolymer and/or three-coat fluoropolymer coatings. Fluoropolymer coating must meet the high performance requirements of AAMA 605.2. Acrylic enamel and high solids polyester coatings must meet the requirements of AAMA 603 specifications.

Performance Requirements:

1. Wind loads: Design and engineer the glazed aluminum framing to withstand design wind pressure loads based on the code requirements for the project.

2. Deflection Limitations:

A. Normal-to-wall deflection shall not exceed L/175 (.75" maximum) for spans less than 13'-6" and L/240 plus .25" for spans greater than 13'-6".

B. Parallel-to-wall deflection to be 0.125" maximum.

3. Air Infiltration: Not to exceed 0.06 CFM per square foot of fixed wall area when tested in accordance with ASTM E-283 at 6.24 PSF.

4. Water Infiltration: No uncontrolled water penetration shall occur when tested in accordance with ASTM E-331-79 and/or ASTM 5.0.1 at a pressure equal to 20% of the positive design pressure (6.24 PSF minimum and 12 PSF maximum).
